Metal Attack, julho de 1985 (Especial Detroit)

Conforme prometido anteriormente aqui fica a reprodução das páginas relativas ao especial Detroit incluído na revista Metal Attack número 23.
É um texto de Pascal Rigault, que foge às referências habitualmente ligadas ao rock de Detroit como os MC5 ou Ted Nugent por exemplo, e escolhe para o artigo seis álbuns de artistas com menor notoriedade (mas com a sua importância) como os Rockets, Frost ou Brownsville Station a par de nomes como Bob Seger, Mitch Ryder e Iggy and the Stooges.
O que dá seis excelentes pretextos para descobrir ou revisitar o rock da cidade dos motores... A propósito não percam este especial Detroit partilhado através do Mixcloud com 3 músicas de cada um destes discos.

No âmbito da imprensa francesa especializada em música a Best foi importante e durante muitos anos uma das concorrentes da Rock & Folk, particularmente durante a década de 1970.
Desta vez por aqui a capa da edição 61 de agosto de 1973.

E uma página de publicidade da editora WEA (Warner, Elektra e Atlantic), que em 1991 se tournou Warner Music, a promover 4 discos.
Aqui a curiosidade é ver o calibre dos lançamentos discográficos da época, Hendrix, Allman Brothers, Jethro Tull e Ten Years After.

Fica aqui a sugestão para dar uma vista de olhos pelo top de álbuns norte-americano cinco decadas entretanto passadas.
É uma reprodução de páginas da Billboard Magazine com a lista dos 200 LP mais vendidos na semana de 16 março de 1968, exatamente há 50 anos.

50 anos atrás: Rock & Folk

Ringo Starr na capa da ainda muito jovem revista Rock & Folk, que em fevereiro de 1968 ia no seu número 15.
São aqui publicados os resultados de uma votação ocorrida ao longo de dezembro do ano anterior que pedira aos leitores que escolhessem os seus artistas preferidos, tendo os Beatles recolhido o maior número de votos seguidos pelos Rolling Stones.

 

Blue Cheer, New Musical Express, julho de 1968

Anúncio da editora Philips relativo ao single Just a Little Bit e ao álbum Vincebus Eruptum dos Blue Cheer, banda norte-americana que surgiu em São Francisco ligada ao movimento psicadélico com uma forte componente de blues e rock quase hard na sua música.
Foi publicado no jornal New Musical Express da semana que acabava a 20 de julho de 1968.

A Prog Magazine é possivelmente a revista internacional de referência no que diz respeito aos sons do rock progressivo.

Foi pois uma muito agradável surpresa quando na sua edição nº81 de 12 de outubro nos deparámos com uma página dedicada aos nossos The Quartet of Woah! a propósito do seu novo trabalho, um álbum homónimo lançado em maio deste ano, quase cinco anos depois da estreia auspiciosa com Ultrabomb.

Tom Petty: 1950 – 2017

Mais um dos nossos heróis que deixa este mundo. O rock'n'roll ficou mais pobre com a morte de Tom Petty, ocorrida no passado dia 2 de outubro aos 66 anos de idade.
Incluído na lista de artistas que nunca deram espetáculos em Portugal anteriormente publicada, vem aqui à memória um dos melhores trabalhos de Petty, o álbum Damn The Topedoes de 1979 com dois recortes alusivos: um anúncio da distribuidora Polygram (desde 1999 com o nome Universal Music Portugal)  e a critica ao álbum num texto com autoria de Ana Rocha, ambos publicados na Música & Som nº56 de julho/agosto de 1980.

Esta lista dos 50 álbuns que fizeram o Prog Rock foi coligida depois da consultadas diversas personalidades de alguma forma relacionadas com esta área do Rock como Steven Wilson, Carl Palmer, Dave Pegg, Alice Cooper, e membros de Marillion, Pallas, Mastodon, Dream Theater, etc.
Como qualquer lista do género tem escolhas polémicas ou subjetivas mas serve também para trazer à discussão obras há muito esquecidas e merecedoras de serem redescobertas ou injustamente nunca apreciadas.

Anúncio de página inteira a promover Fire of Unknown Origin dos Blue Oyster Cult, publicado na ainda muito jovem revista Kerrang, edição nº2 ainda, de agosto de 1981.
Relativamente a este excelente álbum diz-se que prova que os B.O.C. estão num campeonato à parte dos restantes.
Há também chamada de atenção para a atuação ao vivo da banda, a 22 de agosto, em Castle Donington no festival Monsters of Rock.

De volta a 1967 com a Uncut (com playlist)

A revista inglesa Uncut destaca na sua mais recente edição um especial Summer of Love, celebrando o revolucionário verão de 1967.
Estamos já a 50 anos de distância e, como se sabe, os números redondos são muito apelativos para evocar períodos importantes.
